Washington Governor Chris Gregoire signed a bill yesterday to direct more goods and services contracts to veteran-owned businesses. We wrote about this bill last month when it was passed by the state senate and encouraged our Washington membership to reach out to their state representatives and insist this bill become law before the current legislative session ended this month.
The persistence paid off and the state House of Representatives also passed the bill unanimously and sent it off to the governor for yesterday’s signing. To watch a video of the newest veterpreneur-friendly legislation becoming law click here.
The bill, primarily sponsored by Sen. Derek Kilmer, requires the state to reach out to veteran- and service member-owned businesses, making them aware of opportunities to compete for state contracts. That builds off legislation Kilmer authored two years ago that, when signed into law, required the creation of a registry of businesses owned by veterans and service members.
