Congressman Jason Altmire (D-Pa.), spoke with NaVOBA Monday about the federal Service-Disabled, Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) program. Altmire, who serves on the House Small Business Committee, said it's a "disgrace" that the federal government has never hit the three percent spending threshold for vetrepreneurs mandated 11 years ago by Public Law 106-50.
Altmire also addressed the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) Center for Veteran Enterprise (CVE) verification process and the fraudulent activities that were discovered and reported last fall by the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO). Altmire said he's committed to preventing ineligible small businesses from stealing valor from legitimate vetrepreneurs and proposed legislation to rectify the problem. House Resolution 3949 requires all businesses listed in the CVE database to be confirmed as a veteran-owned small business. To learn more about the bill click here.
