The State of New Jersey is currently considering legislation that would require the state to set aside 3 percent of its annual contracts for veteran-owned businesses. The legislation was first introduced into the Military and Veteran’s Affairs Committee of the New Jersey State House Assembly under bill A-3308. An identical bill (S-2314) was introduced into the NJ Senate Military and Veteran’s Affairs Committee.
Yesterday the House Assembly Committee placed the Bill open to public discussion to aid the Committee in its consideration of the proposed legislation. NaVOBA Regional Advocate Richard Walker gave public testimony to the Committee and submitted recommendations to the Committee in support of the bill.
The Committee with one abstention voted unanimously to send the Bill to the floor for full vote of the Assembly.
Next week the Senate’s Committee is placing their version of the Bill open to public discussion and Walker plans to attend that hearing as well.
All New Jesrey vetrepreneurs are encouraged to reach out to their elected reprsentatives and insist that New Jersey become vetrepreneur-friendly.
