NY State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. (D-Queens) announced the passage of legislation which would direct the NYS Division of Veterans Affairs to provide information regarding available resources to assist veterans in establishing and sustaining a business.
The bill would direct the Division of Veterans Affairs to work with the NYS Small Business Development Center and other appropriate state agencies in the establishment of the portal. The division would include this information in its newsletter and at the three seminars sponsored by the division. The information will also be posted on the division’s website and in the annual report to the governor and legislature.
The legislation passed the Senate and Assembly and will be sent to the Gov. David Paterson for approval. It’s important to note, however, that Paterson already vetoed a bill last year that hoped to create opportunities for VOBs similar to those the state offers for its minority-and women-owned businesses. This bill is a far cry from accomplishing that goal, but at least it’s a start.
