On November 13, 2010 the nation’s 1.8 million women veterans have a central resource dedicated to developing women veteran business owners. The Woman Veterans Business Center is an online web portal of resources and information for women veterans and military families trying to start and grow veteran-owned businesses.
“No current resource exists wherein women veterans (and military families) can network online with other veteran businesses, get up-to-date information on products and services and learn of upcoming events pertinent to them,” said NaVOBA member Marylyn Harris, a Gulf War veteran and certified service-disabled veteran business owner. “They can do all of this at the Women Veterans Business Center 24/7/365 from anywhere around the world.”
The web portal will feature stories of women veteran- owned (and military family-owned) businesses and a veteran-owned business networking feature consisting of a blog, streaming veteran-related content and numerous useful resources for VOBs.
The Entrepreneurial Boot camp for Veterans with Disabilities (EBV) is a Platinum Supporter of the Women Veterans Business Center. Harris, a 2010 graduate of the Florida State University Program, launched the idea at a Business Plan competition in late June.
The EBV program brings together veterans with the nation’s leading business academics, entrepreneurs, and Fortune 500 CEOs, all in an effort to jump-start business-ownership opportunities for post-9/11 veterans.
