For the third consecutive year, Falls Church, Va. based DynCorp International (DI) has been named one of the 10 Best Corporations for Veteran-Owned Businesses. Debbie Newberry, small business manager, said DI prides itself in working closely with our customers to support all aspects of the United States small business community.
As a government services provider, DI is charged with specific contractual goals for small business, and Newberry said the firm is "very cognizant" of how the company spends taxpayer dollars. "Small businesses are key to the U.S. economy and it makes sense for us to support them and supply our needs through companies that are responsive, cost effective and innovative in supporting mission requirements," Newberry said.
DI President and Chief Executive Officer William L. Ballhaus said that veteran business owners possess unique skills and their experience makes them ideal suppliers for the company.
"DynCorp International supports the U.S. government in achieving its national security and foreign policy goals, working in austere, challenging and conflict environments around the world," Ballhaus said. "Veterans are already on top of the learning curve in their knowledge of what we need from small businesses, and they understand and appreciate our major customers. We are well served by veteran-owned businesses, and DI makes a special effort in supporting them through supplier outreach programs and opportunities."
Newberry said that DI takes its responsibility to veteran-owned businesses very seriously.
"Being named one of the Best 10 Corporations for Veteran-Owned Businesses means that our outreach efforts and results are noteworthy to the Veteran community," Newberry said. "For that we are extremely proud. It allows DynCorp International visibility in the marketplace for identifying veteran-owned businesses that may be a potential fit for becoming a supplier, and provides additional avenues for outreach to veterans."
DI has made several improvements to increase accessibility to the small business community through infrastructure modernization.
"This has allowed us to electronically link and process potential DI suppliers through a vetting and approval process much quicker," Newberry said." Over the past couple of years, we have expanded and targeted our small business outreach to all regions of the country. Through DI growth we are anticipating our mentor-protégé program to grow and include more opportunities for small businesses."
