Alaska:
House Bill 24 introduced on 1-20-09 by Rep. Anna Fairclough of Eagle River Alaska. This bill if passed gives the Veteran Business Community a 10% bidder’s preference. Additionally, this bill establishes a State Register of Alaska Veteran Owned Businesses that meet the bidder’s preference. As such it will be an invaluable tool for federal agencies when searching for veteran owned businesses in Alaska as they attempt to fully implement federal programs in the state.
Also, House Joint Resolution 16 that was introduced 2-9-09 by Rep. Carl Gotto of Palmer Alaska. With the support of this HR will help Alaska join with other states in sending a message to federal agencies elevating our support to have them fully implement the 3% federal procurement requirement under the Executive Order 13360. This is a federal problem, but some federal procurement officers in Alaska still refuse to comply with the 3% directive.
