Our NaVOBA Corporate Advisory Council (CAC) completed its Spring meeting on Wednesday, March 11th. Leaders from corporate purchasing, procurement, supplier diversity and diversity programs, as well as from NaVOBA and Vetrepreneur magazine joined into the conversation to network, share best practices and to talk about ways to advance the Veteran Business Movement.
Chris Hale, President of NaVOBA kicked off the meeting by introducing Mr. Scott Denniston as a new addition to the NaVOBA team and Director of Programs. Scott talked about his decision to join NaVOBA and plans to take NaVOBA’s effort to the next level.
As a response from last Fall’s meeting, we were able to review NaVOBA’s new corporate-focused supplier diversity site: http://www.navoba.com/corporate-membership.aspx
The goal is for this site to be a valuable resource to supplier diversity and small business professionals looking to start or to grow the veteran-focused supplier diversity program. CAC members are also in the process of receiving NaVOBA-generated outreach material sharing the business case behind buying from VOBs to assist them in spreading the word.
The CAC members collaborated on 2009 event travel plans, sharing ideas on the best places to find and network with VOBs throughout the year.
The group discussed the value of having fewer numbers of places to go to find VOBs. Many of the CAC members have their own online portals for supplier registration, but look to outside databases to do their own searches, when needed, such as the Department of Veterans’ Affairs www.vetbiz.gov
